Well hello and happy Sunday! If you follow my makeup Instagram or at least have seen the highlights, you’ve probably already seen some of these, but I thought it prudent to share some recent updates to my portfolio of an LA Makeup artist published in People Magazine (again)!
Recently, I did my third shoot for People Magazine, so I should share that first! Here are the images and a link to the article!
Here’s a preview to the video they’re making about it!
It was really exciting to work for such a great magazine again, but the best part was… the people. People does such a good job of finding incredible people with amazing stories, much like I aim to with the podcast. I was so impressed by the impact that ____ made with not only rescuing dogs, but then using those rescues to rescue people!
I realized when I was preparing this post that I had never shared my previous jobs with People in my blog – just on my makeup facebook page! The first time I worked with People was back in Milwaukee, for a spread they did on Teachers of the Year!
Here’s the shot!
Since teaching is often unfortunately a thankless profession, and as a former teacher myself, it was amazing to go to that shoot and see some teachers be recognized, especially in my sort of home town! It was also fun, because the school celebrated it with this cute cake!
They also gave the People staff and I mugs. I still smile every time I drink my tea from this mug, because I think of how excited I was for that milestone of my career – my first major publication! As you can see below, I even brought it to a photoshoot!
I guess I wasn’t really an LA Makeup artist for that one, since I lived in Milwaukee!
The next time I did makeup/grooming for People was a much different and less joyous experience. I did makeup and grooming on two survivors of the Jonestown massacre!
Here’s one of the pictures:
There are quite a few posts on People’s website about this! You can check them out here, here, here, and here!
As I mentioned, that second shoot (which took place when I lived in Northern California, so I wasn’t an LA Makeup Artist then) was not as fun and uplifting as the first and third, and brought me a TON of perspective. It was actually a defining moment in my life I’ll never forget!
Since the last time I posted a portfolio update, I did get some edits back! The same photographer who I worked with when we did Timothy Granderos’ pictures (as well as a couple other editorials I can’t share yet) referred me to a friend who was shooting the 2011 face of Guess, Julia Lescova, so we did an epic beach shoot at Venice Beach!
Here are some of my favorite pictures of Julia Lescova shot by Stephane Pironon at Venice Beach!
Very different from the People Magazine shots, no? That’s what I love about my job - everything is so different, so I can never get bored!
Also… I have to include this one because of this week’s holiday!

What’s more American than an immigrant in an American flag bikini photographed by a Parisian tourist? Few things, I say! Either way, this was such a fun shoot! There’s a behind-the-scenes shot on my makeup instagram stories highlights, too!
Well, that’s it for now! Of course, there’s a new podcast episode coming soon, as well as some other great stuff, so stay tuned!
xoxo,
Mandie
